Selected in 1961 and released in 1974 by the USDA, Comet was originally utilized for its high alpha acid content and adapability to growing conditions in the Yakima Valley. Commercial production ceased in the early 1980s in favor of newer super-alpha hops, however, Comet has made a recent comeback, finding favor with some brewers in dual purpose applications for its subtle and unique, "wild American" aroma.

Aroma: Specific aroma descriptors include subtle, "wild American," grassy and grapefruit.

This hop is hybrid of Hallertau, Mild, pleasant, and clean, somewhat pungent and resiny

Centennial is a hop released in 1990 first called CFJ-90 but later renamed Centennial since 1990 was the 100 year anniversary of Washington State. Centennial is used primarily for bittering and has floral and citrus flavors. Grows well in all climates. Susceptible to Downy Mildew.

Cascade is the most commonly used hop in homebrewing today. Cascade grows slowly at first but really gets moving about halfway through the season. It is flowery spicy and citrusy. Can have a grapefruit flavor. Is often used with Centennial for the signature NW bittering profile found in many beers. Available female rhizome. Grows well in all climates. Susceptible to Aphids.

Chinook was released in 1985. Used primarily for bittering it is spicy piney and grapefruity. Grows well in dry hot climates rather than moist ones. This hop is also subject to the Spider Mite.
